Michael Jordan likely won’t return to NBC Sports’ NBA coverage

In the event you actually realized Michael Jordan worked for NBC last season, well, you almost definitely won’t this season.

Per Front Office Sports, Jordan is expected not to return to the network’s coverage this year. NBC was in its first season last year as part of the NBA’s new media rights deal, also involving ESPN/ABC and Amazon Prime.

Jordan offered occasional insights during the pre- and postgame shows. But his appearances were few and frankly, didn’t offer much to the broadcast. Other than, of course, it’s Michael Jordan. And that actually counts for a lot.

Jordan’s official title was “special on-air contributor.” As Front Office Sports noted, it really was the first time he talked hoops since the wildly successful Netflix documentary “The Last Dance,” released in 2020.

Again, Jordan’s appearances on NBC were fairly vanilla, almost orchestrated — as if he knew the questions beforehand. Among the questions that were avoided: Who’s the GOAT, you or LeBron James? 

Of course Jordan believes it’s Jordan. So do plenty of fans. He would likely never say that, but it’s the question everyone was hoping for.

Nonetheless, Jordan talking about stuff is better than no Jordan at all. It appears the latter is what NBC will be stuck with, though.

Jordan won six championships with the Bulls in the 1990s. NBC aired all of them.
