Police had stopped one of the vehicles near the 1600 block of Jefferson Street when Harden reportedly pulled up behind it in his Mercedes, according to the records.

During the interaction, an officer allegedly spotted a handgun sitting in the cup holder of Harden’s vehicle. Court records indicate Harden told police the weapon belonged to him.

Harden was then arrested on a misdemeanor gun charge and booked into the Harris County Jail.

The 36-year-old was later released on a general order bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 22, according to county records.

The Cavs issued a statement earlier Saturday, saying they are aware of the situation and are gathering information.

Harden joined Cleveland in a February trade and helped the Cavs reach the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2018. Following the season, he made it clear he hopes to remain with the organization.

“Definitely want to be here,” he said after the Cavs were eliminated. “I think we found something.”

Harden averaged 20.5 points and 7.7 assists during the regular season and 19.2 points and 5.5 assists in the playoffs. He is represented by agent Tony Payne.
