NBA Free Agency: Sixers, Anfernee Simons, Knicks, Yves Missi, Lakers

Sixers

The Sixers have added another scoring guard.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Philadelphia has agreed to a two-year, $12.3 million contract with free agent Anfernee Simons. The second season includes a player option.

Simons reportedly drew interest from several teams, including the Warriors, Heat, Mavericks, Nuggets and Pacers, with The Stein Line reporting the Sixers ultimately made the strongest financial offer.

Golden State reportedly offered only a veteran minimum contract as it continues waiting on LeBron James‘ free-agency decision.

Simons averaged 14.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 55 games last season while splitting time between the Celtics and Bulls. He now joins a Philadelphia roster that has undergone a dramatic makeover with the additions of Jaylen Brown, Dean Wade and Ariel Hukporti.

Knicks

The Knicks continue searching for frontcourt help.

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, New York has aggressively pursued Pelicans center Yves Missi but has been turned away each time.

Haynes reported the Knicks have made multiple attempts to acquire the young center, though New Orleans has informed teams it considers Missi part of its long-term core.

The search for another big man intensified after Mitchell Robinson left for the Celtics in free agency.

Lakers

The Lakers may not be finished reshaping their roster.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, several league sources believe Los Angeles could explore a trade or waive-and-stretch scenario involving a player such as Jarred Vanderbilt or Deandre Ayton.

The thinking is that such a move could create enough financial flexibility to re-sign free-agent forward Rui Hachimura.

McMenamin stressed, however, that the chatter is based on league speculation rather than any concrete indication a move is imminent.
