NBA holding exactly zero games today

Regardless of your feelings on politics, the NBA is asking you to at least pretend to care. Or maybe you’re super into it.

Either way, the league is emphasizing that you exercise your right to get out and vote with exactly zero NBA games today, Nov. 3, Election Day.

This is the fourth time in five election days that the league has avoided games on this day. Though it hasn’t always been this way. I can remember sitting on press row at a Cavaliers game in 2016 when Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the presidential election. Or at least I can remember everyone watching the results come in as much as they watched the Cavs.

This isn’t the case everywhere. The NHL is holding 11 games today. College basketball started Monday and there will be games across the country again today. I’m sure some other sport that I haven’t thought of is tossing out a ball.

As for the NBA, well, they’re trying to do what they believe is their duty. They’re giving you a chance to go to the polls without missing a second of the action. And that’s because there won’t be any action.

But fear not, things will return in full force Wednesday with 14 games. So regardless of how you vote, or if you even vote at all, the ball will start bouncing again shortly.
