The Washington Wizards have officially signed free agent guard Jaylen Nowell to an NBA 10-day contract, the team announced in a press release.
Interestingly, the announcement came after the conclusion of Washington’s Saturday game against Atlanta, with Nowell not appearing on the team’s active list or injury report for that matchup.
Since 10-day contracts must cover a minimum of three games, and the Wizards only have two remaining before the All-Star break, Nowell’s deal will likely extend through February 21, Washington’s first game following the break. If this is the case, his contract will span 14 days, earning him a total of $195,147.
Nowell, 25, spent his first four NBA seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2019-2023. After brief stints with Memphis and Detroit in the 2023-24 season, he joined Washington’s G League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go, this fall. The 6-foot-4 guard has been outstanding for the Go-Go, averaging 25.2 points per game on an impressive shooting line of .527/.515/.929 over 20 games (34.3 minutes per game).
This marks Nowell’s second NBA stint of the season, following a brief run with the New Orleans Pelicans in November. He appeared in eight games with the Pelicans, averaging 8.4 points in 21.0 minutes per game, before they waived him.
With a major roster overhaul at the trade deadline, the Wizards waiving newly acquired center Alex Len, which opens up a spot on the 15-man roster for Nowell. Now finalized, Nowell’s 10-day contract will allow him to be active for Washington’s final three games before the All-Star break, earning $139,391 during that period.
