Heat
Tyler Herro wants to stay in Miami, but an extension doesn’t look close.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, there haven’t been any substantive talks between Herro and the Heat, and a preseason deal is considered doubtful. Because Herro still has two guaranteed years left on his contract, he won’t be eligible to extend during the season. That means the next window to revisit talks would be the summer of 2026.
Windhorst adds that Norman Powell and Andrew Wiggins are also eligible for new deals, though neither appears close to one.
As ESPN’s Tim Bontemps notes, the Heat are one of several teams eyeing 2027 as a big-swing summer — a free agency class that could include Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Donovan Mitchell. For now, Miami’s focus seems to be keeping that cap flexibility wide open.
Hawks
The Hawks and guard Dyson Daniels are talking extension before Monday’s rookie-scale deadline, per ESPN’s Tim Bontemps.
Daniels’ agent, Daniel Moldovan, is reportedly using Jalen Suggs’ five-year, $150 million deal as the target, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks. Atlanta forward Jalen Johnson signed that same type of extension last fall.
Daniels, 21, won the NBA’s Most Improved Player award last season and is seen as a key piece next to Trae Young and Johnson. Whether the sides close a deal in time remains to be seen.
Raptors
The Raptors have signed undrafted rookie Julian Reese to an Exhibit 10 contract, the team announced.
Reese, a 6-foot-9 forward out of Maryland, averaged 13.3 points and 9.0 rebounds last season and finished second all-time in school history in rebounding — trailing only Len Elmore. His sister, Angel Reese, stars for the WNBA’s Chicago Sky.
As reported by Michael Grange of Sportsnet, the plan is for Reese to join the Raptors 905 after he’s waived. If he spends at least 60 days with the G League club, he’ll be eligible for a bonus worth up to $85,300.
Toronto cleared roster space Thursday after waiving five players, bringing the total to 17 under contract heading into the final week of camp.
