NBA Notes: Lakers, Luka Doncic, Celtics, Jayson Tatum, Raptors

Lakers

Luka Doncic apparently likes what the Lakers have done this offseason.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Doncic is “excited” about Los Angeles’ revamped roster after the team added Walker Kessler via trade and signed Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, Sandro Mamukelashvili and Kevon Looney in free agency.

The Lakers also locked up Austin Reaves to a new deal, giving Doncic another familiar face in the backcourt.

Of course, the roster makeover also included some major departures. LeBron James remains a free agent, while Rui Hachimura signed with the Clippers, Marcus Smart joined the Rockets, Luke Kennard landed with the Suns and Deandre Ayton was dealt to the Wizards.

Now the question becomes whether the Lakers are finished — or if another move is still coming.

Celtics

In case you missed it, Jayson Tatum finally addressed Boston’s blockbuster trade of longtime running mate Jaylen Brown.

“To be honest, weird,” Tatum said, via CelticsBlog. “It’s weird.”

The two spent nine seasons together, reached two NBA Finals and won a championship before Boston sent Brown to Philadelphia in exchange for Paul George and draft picks.

Tatum admitted it will take some getting used to.

“You just kind of feel like you’re going to be on a team with somebody because that’s all you know,” he said. “Then one day you find out they’re no longer on your team.”

Brown’s departure remains one of the biggest stories of the offseason, with Boston betting that added flexibility and future draft assets will ultimately outweigh moving on from one of the league’s top two-way wings.

Raptors

The Raptors are expected to add Stephen Silas to Darko Rajakovic’s coaching staff, according to Michael Grange of Sportsnet.

Silas previously served as head coach of the Rockets and later spent a season with the Pistons before stepping away from the NBA. Most recently, he has been coaching Team USA in international competition.

Toronto is also expected to lose assistants Mike Batiste and James Wade as Rajakovic continues reshaping his staff.
