NBA Notes: Lakers, Russell Westbrook, Pistons, Jazz

Lakers

Russell Westbrook is approaching training camp with a positive mindset, he indicated to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

“I need to just do my job. Whether I’m wanted or not doesn’t really matter,” Westbrook said, via Wojnarowski. “I think the most important thing is that I show up for work and I do the job like I’ve always done it: Be professional and go out and play my ass off and compete.”

Westbrook, 33, is entering his second season with the Lakers after a clunky first. He has been the subject of endless trade speculation — and that i likely to continue.

“I’m all-in on whatever it takes for this team to win,” Westbrook said. “I’m prepared for whatever comes my way.”

Pistons

  • Guard/forward Alec Burks will miss the start of training cap with an ankle/foot fracture. Burks will be evaluated in three weeks.
  • Forward Kevin Knox (right gastroc strain) and center Nerlens Noel (plantar faciitis) will be limited at the beginning of camp and “work towards full participation,” the team announced.
  • The Pistons have signed and waived guard Kyler Edwards, per the NBA transactions log. Edwards is likely headed to the G League.

Jazz

The Jazz have officially signed Cody Zeller to a training camp contract, the team announced.

Zeller, 29, is 6-foot-11 and appeared in 27 games with the Trail Blazers last season after spending the first eight years of his career with the Hornets.

He was waived in February as a result of the Blazers’ CJ McCollum trade with the Pelicans. With Portland, Zeller averaged 5.2 points and 4.6 rebounds.
