NBA Notes: Raptors, Jamal Shead, Wizards, AJ Dybantsa, Nuggets

Raptors

Jamal Shead will remain with the Raptors for at least one more season.

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, Toronto has exercised Shead’s team option for the 2026-27 campaign, locking in his $2.3 million salary.

The former Houston standout has become a steady contributor during his first two NBA seasons, appearing in 157 of a possible 164 regular-season games while averaging 6.9 points and 4.8 assists.

Shead also took on a larger role during the playoffs when starting point guard Immanuel Quickley was sidelined, making four starts for Toronto.

The 24-year-old will become eligible for a contract extension beginning July 6.

Wizards

The No. 1 overall pick has his number.

Washington announced that AJ Dybantsa will wear No. 4 as he begins his NBA career after being selected first overall in this week’s draft.

Dybantsa also wore No. 4 during his lone season at BYU, where he averaged 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists while emerging as the consensus top prospect in the draft.

The 19-year-old reposted the team’s jersey announcement on social media with a simple message:

“LET’S GOOOOOO.”

The Wizards are hoping Dybantsa becomes the next franchise cornerstone as the organization continues its rebuild.

Nuggets

Denver has added one of the top remaining undrafted players.

According to multiple reports, former Tennessee State wing Aaron Nkrumah has agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract with the Nuggets following the NBA Draft.

Nkrumah averaged 17.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.8 steals last season while earning Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year honors.

The 6-foot-6 wing will have an opportunity to compete in Summer League and training camp, with the possibility of earning a larger role if he impresses.

Like most Exhibit 10 agreements, the deal can also be converted into a two-way contract.
