Warriors
The Warriors are bringing back center Charles Bassey on a one-year contract, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Bassey, 25, finished last season with Golden State after bouncing around the league on a series of short-term deals. He made the most of his opportunity, averaging 10.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks over five late-season appearances while also starring for the Warriors’ G League affiliate in Santa Cruz.
The former second-round pick has spent time with the Sixers, Spurs, Grizzlies, Celtics and Warriors, but Golden State apparently liked what it saw enough to bring him back.
Bassey is expected to provide frontcourt depth behind Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford after the Warriors declined to match Memphis’ three-year, $30 million offer sheet for Quinten Post.
Mavericks
New coach Dusty May continues to reshape his coaching staff.
According to DallasHoopsJournal.com, veteran assistant Frank Vogel won’t return, while longtime NBA assistant Phil Handy is expected to stay. Handy is known to have a strong relationship with Kyrie Irving, and there’s also a chance assistant Josh Broghamer remains on staff.
Spurs
Veteran forward Harrison Barnes gave up his built-in no-trade protection as part of the one-year, $8 million deal he signed to remain with San Antonio, per Hoops Rumors.
Players who re-sign with their current team on one-year contracts typically receive an automatic right to veto trades during that season. Barnes agreed to waive that protection, giving the Spurs additional flexibility if they decide to explore the trade market later in the year.
It’s a small contractual detail, but one that could matter if San Antonio becomes active before the trade deadline.
