NBA Notes: Warriors, Dalen Terry, Pacers, Tyrese Haliburton, Nuggets

Warriors

The Warriors plan to waive Dalen Terry, but they’d like to keep him around in the G League.

Per Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, Golden State likes Terry and suggests he could begin the season with Santa Cruz in the G League.

Terry averaged 6.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.2 steals in five preseason appearances. He shot 48 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc, albeit in a small sample.

His camp contract included Exhibit 9 protections rather than Exhibit 10 language, so a move to Santa Cruz wouldn’t come with the usual affiliate bonus.

The 24-year-old has already had a busy year. Chicago traded him in February, he was rerouted through New York to New Orleans and waived, then landed with Philadelphia. The Sixers eventually converted his two-way deal to a standard contract for the playoffs before releasing him over the summer to create room under their hard cap for LeBron James.

Golden State offered another opportunity, but Terry hasn’t found a lasting NBA role since being selected 18th overall in 2022.

His expected departure improves Brandon Williams’ chances of making the Warriors’ standard roster. Williams’ salary would remain non-guaranteed until January.

Pacers

The Pacers went from one win away from a championship to 19 wins for an entire season. Tyrese Haliburton understands why the expectations have changed.

“You can take [our preseason rankings] as disrespect, but at the same time, you got to understand we put ourselves in that position by the way we played last year,” Haliburton told ESPN’s Jamal Collier.

“There’s standards that we didn’t meet that we got to get back to. And there’s no secret that there was a drop-off last year.”

Haliburton’s return from a torn Achilles gives Indiana a chance to do something about it. So does the addition of Ivica Zubac, though their pick-and-roll partnership will need time to develop.

Haliburton said the team’s championship ambitions have “never wavered.” General manager Chad Buchanan believes a familiar feeling could help.

“Our core guys believe in each other. They feel like people have written them off already,” Buchanan said. “That’s what’s happened those two years we made runs — people just kind of discarded us. That’s what fuels them.”

Indiana reached the conference finals in 2024 and Game 7 of the Finals in 2025 before Haliburton’s injury. The Pacers know what that level looks like. Now they have to find out how much of it they can recapture.

Nuggets

The Nuggets announced that Julian Strawther suffered a left knee sprain and will be reevaluated in six weeks. That puts his next evaluation in late November, with a return date still undetermined.

Strawther was injured Wednesday against the Clippers when his left leg twisted underneath him while he tried to escape a double-team.

The timing is especially difficult for a player making a strong case for rotation minutes. Strawther averaged 13.2 points in 18.4 minutes across four preseason games, shooting 43.5 percent from beyond the arc.

Coach David Adelman had been weighing how to use that shooting alongside DeMar DeRozan in the second unit. He’ll now have to sort through other combinations to begin the season.

Strawther also faces Monday’s rookie extension deadline, though a deal wasn’t considered likely even before the injury. Without an extension, he’ll be eligible for restricted free agency in 2027.
