NBA Rumors: Celtics, Jaylen Brown, Grizzlies, Ja Morant, Pistons

Celtics

The Timberwolves apparently explored more than one blockbuster trade this week.

Before acquiring LaMelo Ball from the Hornets, Minnesota also discussed a possible deal for Celtics star Jaylen Brown, according to Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports and Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

Those talks never gained traction, with Ball ultimately emerging as the Timberwolves’ preferred target.

Meanwhile, Brown continues to generate interest around the league.

According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, Brown has not requested a trade despite Boston continuing to field calls from interested teams. Siegel added that some rival executives remain skeptical the Celtics will ultimately move the All-Star forward this offseason.

The Rockets and Pelicans are among the teams that have spoken with Boston, while the Celtics are also believed to have interest in Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III.

Grizzlies

Ja Morant‘s name isn’t going away.

Appearing on ESPN Radio, NBA insider Brian Windhorst described the Grizzlies guard as “flagrantly available,” while acknowledging that finding a trade partner hasn’t been easy.

“They are highly motivated to trade him,” Windhorst said. “But the two years on the contract make it very difficult.”

According to Windhorst, Morant’s contract and injury history have made teams hesitant to meet Memphis’ asking price.

“I just can’t see him playing for the Grizzlies again,” he added.

Pistons

Detroit continues to search for another offensive weapon.

After reportedly showing interest in Austin Reaves before he re-signed with the Lakers, the Pistons have now turned their attention to Tyler Herro, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

Herro is headed to Milwaukee as part of the Giannis Antetokounmpo blockbuster, though it’s still unclear whether the Bucks intend to keep him or use him in another trade.

If Milwaukee decides to move the veteran guard, Detroit appears ready to explore the possibility.
