The Philadelphia 76ers are set to sign power forward David Roddy to a 10-day contract once he clears waivers, per NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
Roddy, 23, was waived by the Atlanta Hawks on Friday to create a roster spot for a two-for-one trade with the Los Angeles Clippers. In that deal, Atlanta sent Bogdan Bogdanovic to the Clippers in exchange for Terance Mann and Bones Hyland.
The 6-foot-5 forward had been with the Hawks for part of the 2023-24 season, appearing in 27 games, including three starts. Over 12.8 minutes per game, Roddy averaged 4.5 points and 3.6 rebounds.
This move will mark Roddy’s fourth team in just three seasons. He was originally selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 23rd overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft but was immediately traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. After spending a year and a half with Memphis, Roddy was traded to the Phoenix Suns at last year’s deadline, only to be moved once again in July, when the Suns sent him to the Hawks.
Roddy’s return to the Sixers is made possible after the team cleared multiple roster spots through its recent deadline trades, so no additional moves are necessary to add him. He will join Chuma Okeke, who also signed a 10-day contract with the 76ers on Friday.
Both Roddy and Okeke will be eligible to sign a second 10-day contract once their current deals expire, providing them an opportunity to earn a longer-term role with the team.
