NBA Notes: Suns, Miles Bridges, Pistons, Jalen Duren, Magic

Suns

Suns newcomer Miles Bridges and his former girlfriend, Mychelle Johnson, are once again involved in a legal dispute.

According to TMZ, Johnson is facing assault and battery charges stemming from a custody exchange earlier this year. She has called those charges “false” and “frivolous” while accusing Bridges of attempting to run her over with a golf cart during the same incident.

Bridges previously obtained a temporary restraining order against Johnson after alleging she cyberstalked him and attempted to damage his vehicle outside one of his games. Johnson denied those allegations.

The latest dispute comes after Bridges served a 10-game NBA suspension in 2023-24 following an earlier domestic violence case that caused him to miss the entire 2022-23 season.

The Suns acquired Bridges in a trade with the Hornets.

Pistons

The Pistons and restricted free agent Jalen Duren remain at a stalemate.

According to Hunter Patterson of The Athletic, Detroit has shown little interest in exploring a sign-and-trade, leaving the two sides with limited alternatives as negotiations continue.

Patterson noted that reaching an agreement would benefit both parties, particularly given Duren’s age, production and the lack of comparable options available to the Pistons at center.

Magic

Magic rookie Izaiyah Nelson will undergo surgery after suffering a fractured left ankle during a Summer League game Sunday.

Orlando said the second-round pick is expected to resume basketball activities in three to four months, putting his availability for training camp and the start of the regular season in doubt.

Nelson, who signed a two-way contract after being selected out of South Florida, had already made a strong impression on the organization, per Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel.

“His competitiveness and his motor are off the charts,” Summer League coach DJ Bakker said. “When a player has that type of a makeup and that type of a DNA, you feel comfortable going into battle with them.”

Nelson earned American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors last season after transferring from Arkansas State to South Florida before entering the NBA Draft.
