One NBA analyst proposed that the Chicago Bulls acquire Anthony Davis from the Dallas Mavericks this offseason.
Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed the following three-team trade idea between the Bulls, Mavericks and Orlando Magic:
Bulls Receive: Anthony Davis and Gary Harris
Mavericks Receive: Zach Collins, Kevin Huerter, Jonathan Isaac, a 2028 first-round pick from Chicago, a 2029 first-round pick swap from Chicago and a top-five-protected 2030 first-round pick from Chicago
Magic Receive: Nikola Vučević and a top-50-protected 2025 second-round pick from Dallas (via Philadelphia)
Davis was born and raised in Chicago. The one-time NBA champion will make $54,126,380 next season.
“Homecoming stories are always fun in the NBA,” Bailey wrote. “We’ve been tantalized with the possibility of Davis returning to his hometown Bulls in the past. But the stars were never aligned for that reunion quite like they are right now. The Bulls’ post-Zach LaVine-trade surge made it clear that they have a backcourt ready to compete for more than play-in berths right now.
“After the All-Star break, Josh Giddey averaged 21.2 points, 10.7 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game, while Coby White went for 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.7 three-pointers. Their individual breakouts show they’re worthy of an investment in a superstar big like AD. His rim protection and range as a defender could potentially transform the team on that end of the floor. His rim-running would make him a near-ideal complement for Giddey. And the attention he’d command inside would take pressure off both Giddey and White. Two starters and multiple first-round picks is a steep price to pay, but the resulting roster could have Chicago competing for a top-six finish next season.”
The Los Angeles Lakers traded Davis to the Mavericks in the blockbuster Luka Doncic trade. Davis averaged 24.7 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.2 blocks this season while shooting 51.6% from the field, 28.2% from 3 and 77.5% from the foul line.
A 10-time All-Star, Davis has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Lakers and Mavericks. He has career averages of 24.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks.
The future Hall of Famer helped the Lakers win the 2020 championship.
The Bulls missed the playoffs again this year. They have made the postseason once since trading Jimmy Butler in 2017.
