NBA trade proposal sends Thunder’s Jalen Williams to Nets

The Brooklyn Nets still appear stuck somewhere between rebuilding and trying to accelerate things.

So naturally, hypothetical trade ideas are starting to fly.

One recent ESPN proposal imagined Brooklyn making a massive swing for Jalen Williams in a blockbuster deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In the proposed scenario, the Nets would receive Williams while Oklahoma City would land Michael Porter Jr. along with multiple future first-round picks.

To be clear, this was purely hypothetical discussion — not a report that talks are actually taking place.

Still, ESPN’s logic is fairly easy to understand.

Brooklyn badly needs a franchise centerpiece after another difficult season, and Williams is exactly the type of young two-way star teams spend years trying to find.

ESPN’s Bobby Marks noted the Nets also have extra motivation to improve quickly because the Houston Rockets own swap rights on Brooklyn’s 2027 first-round pick.

That means bottoming out again may not even benefit the Nets all that much.

Williams, meanwhile, continues emerging as one of the NBA’s brightest young stars despite dealing with injuries at times this season. He averaged 17.1 points, 5.5 assists and 4.6 rebounds while remaining a major part of Oklahoma City’s rise.

Of course, the bigger question is whether the Thunder would seriously consider moving him at all.

Given Oklahoma City’s championship window and Williams’ importance to it, that seems highly debatable
