The Golden State Warriors are tied at 1-all in their first-round series against the Houston Rockets and, for now, all focus is on the postseason.
That said, the NBA rumor mill never truly sleeps.
One name that’s become conspicuously absent lately? Jonathan Kuminga. Since being benched by Steve Kerr in the regular-season finale, Kuminga has been a bit player in the playoffs, not getting any minutes in the first game. So naturally, the trade chatter has picked up steam.
While the Brooklyn Nets have been tossed around as a possible landing spot, a hypothetical proposal from Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz offers up something spicier: a sign-and-trade sending both Kuminga and Moses Moody to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Anfernee Simons.
Now to be clear — this is not a real trade being discussed by either team. Just a mock idea. But it’s an interesting one.
Simons, who just wrapped a 2024-25 season averaging 19.3 points and 4.8 assists over 70 games, would give the Warriors a legit scoring threat either as a starter or off the bench. He’s 25, can shoot, and could complement Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler nicely.
On the flip side, Moody has earned praise for his play as a plug-in starter, and Kuminga remains one of the team’s most promising young talents, even if Kerr’s recent rotation choices say otherwise.
But again, this isn’t a deal on the table. It’s a theoretical swing for a team that might be headed for big changes, depending on how this playoff run plays out.
For now, the Warriors are locked in on the Rockets. Everything else — trades, signings, retooling — comes later.
