NBA Notes: Warriors, Draymond Green, Hawks, Lu Dort, Lamar Stevens

Warriors

The Warriors may not have landed LeBron James, but they don’t appear headed for a major roster shakeup, either.

According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, veteran forward Draymond Green is expected to re-sign with Golden State on a one-year deal worth roughly $27.7 million after declining his player option earlier this offseason.

The move would give the Warriors additional long-term flexibility while keeping one of the franchise’s cornerstones alongside Stephen Curry.

Golden State, of course, was among the teams pursuing James before he ultimately signed with Philadelphia. As NBC Sports Bay Area’s Dalton Johnson noted, missing out on James capped what has otherwise been a relatively quiet offseason for a team coming off a 37-win season and another trip to the lottery.

Meanwhile, there is at least some encouraging news on the injury front.

Slater said Jimmy Butler continues making progress in his recovery from a torn ACL. Butler is now more than five months removed from surgery and has recently turned a corner, though he has not yet been cleared to sprint at full speed.

Hawks

Don’t expect the Hawks to rush into an extension with newly acquired wing Lu Dort.

According to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, Atlanta is expected to take its time before discussing a new deal with Dort after acquiring him from the Thunder this offseason.

The thinking is understandable. Rather than immediately locking themselves into another long-term contract, the Hawks appear intent on preserving flexibility. Atlanta now has several players on mid-sized contracts that could be packaged together if a star becomes available before the trade deadline.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype has reported that the Hawks would like to keep Dort beyond next season. It just may not happen right away.

International

Former Cavaliers forward Lamar Stevens is headed to Serbia. KK Partizan announced that Stevens has signed with the club after spending last season with Paris Basketball.

Stevens appeared in 53 games overseas, averaging 9.6 points and 3.4 rebounds while continuing to build on a professional career that has taken him from Cleveland to Boston, Memphis and now one of Europe’s most respected organizations.

The 27-year-old has appeared in 220 NBA games, including four seasons with the Cavaliers, where his toughness and defensive versatility made him a fan favorite.
