The Nets have exceeded expectations early this season, competing at a high level despite not being viewed as contenders. But don’t let their solid start fool you — Brooklyn is keeping all options open when it comes to the trade market.
Per Sam Amick of The Athletic, no player on the roster is untouchable, signaling potential big changes ahead.
Cam Thomas, the explosive young guard, headlines the list of players who could be on the move. Thomas didn’t come to terms on an extension with the Nets this past offseason, making his name a hot topic around the league.
Known for his ability to score in bunches, Thomas would be a coveted piece for teams seeking offensive firepower.
Brooklyn is also open to trade discussions surrounding key contributors Nic Claxton and Cameron Johnson, despite both players being on long-term deals.
Claxton, one of the better young big men in the league, re-upped with the Nets last summer on a four-year, $100 million contract. Meanwhile, Johnson inked a lucrative extension as well but could be included in a package to address other needs.
Veterans like Dennis Schroder and Bojan Bogdanovic are also expected to generate interest as Brooklyn evaluates how to balance short-term competitiveness with their long-term vision, per Amick.
The Nets are in an interesting position — competitive enough to be in the mix now, but also seemingly ready to pivot if the right deal presents itself. With the trade deadline arriving in early February, Brooklyn could be one of the most active teams on the market, whether they decide to build around their current core or go in a new direction altogether.
