Nets, Markieff Morris Agree To One-Year Contract

The Nets have agreed to a one-year contract with forward Markieff Morris, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.Markieff Morris

Morris, 32, is 6-foot-9 and appeared in 17 games with the Heat last season before becoming an unrestricted free agent. He missed 58 games after being in an early-November scuffle with Nuggets star Nikola Jokic, rejoining the team in March.

Last season, Morris averaged 7.6 points and 2.6 rebounds, shooting 47 percent from the field. He has also spent time with the Lakers, Pistons, Thunder, Wizards and Suns since entering the league in 2011.

Marc Stein of The Stein Line first reported that the Nets and Morris were nearing agreement on the contract, and it’s pretty clear that the Nets have been on the lookout for frontcourt help.

Brooklyn recently agreed to a deal with forward Yuta Watanabe (full post) and have been linked to center Tristan Thompson (full post) — though after signing Morris, the Nets may not be interested in Thompson any longer.

Of the Morris signing, Charania wrote: “An addition who brings production and leadership as an 11-year NBA veteran. Morris was part of the 2020 Lakers championship team and now is set to join Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons in Brooklyn. He is expected to undergo a physical with the team this week.”
