No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa to make NBA debut against Cavs

The Cavaliers already had Trae Young and Anthony Davis to account for Wednesday night. Now Washington is adding the No. 1 overall pick to the assignment.

AJ Dybantsa will make his NBA debut for the Wizards against Cleveland, the team announced.

That gives the matchup at Rocket Arena another reason to watch, with Washington finally getting its first regular-season look at the player it selected to help shape its future.

The Wizards have already added established talent around their younger players. Dybantsa’s arrival gives them another piece to work into that mix, though how much he’ll play and how quickly he’ll settle in are separate questions.

For the Cavs, the job stays the same. They’re trying to build on Monday’s overtime win over the Timberwolves and put together a more consistent performance from start to finish.

Cleveland improved to 2-1 by coming back against Minnesota after spending its first two games struggling to protect leads. Washington presents another opportunity to show that Monday’s resilience can carry over.

Dybantsa, meanwhile, gets to begin his NBA career against a team with established postseason expectations.

Not exactly easing into the schedule. But the Wizards have waited for this introduction, and Cleveland gets the first look.
