Penn State coach Micah Shrewsberry is leaving for the same position at Notre Dame, per Jeff Goodman of Stadium.Micah Schrewsberry

Shrewsberry, 46, will be signing a seven-year contract after turning down a long-term extension with the Nittany Lions, added Jeff Borzello and Pete Thamel of ESPN.

This season Shrewsberry led Penn State to their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2011, knocking off Texas A&M in the first round, before falling to Texas in the second.

The Notre Dame job will serve as a return home for the Indianapolis native, who attended Hanover College before becoming an assistant at Wabash College and DePauw University.

He eventually became the head coach at Indiana University South Bend, then joined Brad Stevens as an assistant at Butler. After that, he spent time with Matt Painter at Purdue, then Stevens with the Celtics, then two more years with Painter.

Shrewsberry is replacing Mike Brey, who stepped down after 23 seasons and 16 NCAA tourney appearances with the Fighting Irish.
