The Nuggets know DeMar DeRozan will come off the bench. Now comes the more interesting part: Figuring out everything after that.
Coach David Adelman confirmed Denver intends to retain last season’s starting five, as relayed by Bennett Durando of the Denver Post, leaving the six-time All-Star in a reserve role for the first time since his rookie season.
But Adelman acknowledged the rotation itself remains very much under construction.
“I think, for me, I’ve got to figure it out through feel in the preseason,” Adelman said.
That includes determining which starters DeRozan will play alongside and how long the 37-year-old should remain on the floor during individual stretches.
“I’m not quite sure yet until we get into the preseason,” Adelman said. “That’s why those games are important to me. … DeMar, he’s an older guy. I’ve got to make sure I take care of him too.”
DeRozan has already said he’s willing to come off the bench if that’s what Denver believes gives it the best chance to win.
So there doesn’t appear to be any drama. Just a potentially fascinating basketball experiment.
