The Pacers are bringing back one of their more intriguing developmental players.
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Indiana has agreed to re-sign forward Jalen Slawson to a two-way contract after extending him a qualifying offer earlier this offseason.
Slawson, 26, joined the Pacers late last season after spending time with the Kings organization and the G League. He made the most of his opportunity in Indiana, averaging 7.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.1 blocks across 13 appearances while showing the versatility that first caught the team’s attention.
The former Furman standout also turned heads during Summer League in Las Vegas, averaging 20.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and an impressive 3.2 blocks per game. While his athleticism and defensive instincts stood out, he also battled inconsistency, shooting 29.0 percent from three-point range and averaging 3.6 turnovers.
Slawson joins Kobe Brown and Ethan Thompson on Indiana’s current group of two-way players. However, the Pacers are also expected to sign second-round pick Braden Smith to a two-way deal, meaning another roster move could eventually be necessary.
