Saddiq Bey’s comeback season has resulted in a significant commitment from the Pelicans.
Bey agreed to a three-year, $55.5 million contract extension with New Orleans, his agents told Shams Charania of ESPN. The deal is fully guaranteed and includes a trade kicker.
The extension will begin with the 2027-28 season and run through 2029-30. Bey remains under contract for a team-friendly $6.44 million this coming season.
That’s quite a turnaround for a player who missed the entire 2024-25 campaign while recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee.
Bey returned to appear in 72 games last season, including 64 starts, and averaged 17.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 0.9 steals. He shot 45.1 percent from the field, 36.7 percent from three and 84.1 percent at the foul line.
As Rory Maher of Hoops Rumors noted, the 27-year-old’s extension contains an unspecified trade kicker.
New Orleans is paying Bey like a dependable starting forward after he spent a full season showing that the knee injury is behind him. Given his production and the rising salary cap, the contract could age rather nicely if that continues.
