The Pelicans have waived two-way guard Izaiah Brockington, while signing forward Zylan Cheatham and center John Butler, per the NBA’s transactions log.
Brockington, 23, is 6-foot-4 and finished his college career at Iowa State, suffering a torn ACL prior to the NBA Draft. He is hopeful of returning later in the season.
He actually played college basketball for three schools — spending time at St. Bonaventure and Penn State before concluding at Iowa State.
Cheatham, 26, is 6-6 and appeared in 21 games with the Pelicans’ G League affiliate in Birmingham last season, averaging 14 points on 55 percent shooting. He signed a 10-day hardship contract with the Pelicans as well.
Butler, 19, is 7-2 and went undrafted out of Florida State, then signed with the Pelicans for summer league. He went 12-of-16 from the field in those games, averaging 8.5 points and 3.8 rebounds, showing range on his jump shot.
The Pelicans’ roster now stands at 20, including two-way player Dereon Seabron. Second-round pick E.J. Liddell also suffered a torn ACL, in summer league play, and remains unsigned.
