The Detroit Pistons have had a major downer of a season, but at least they took the season series from one opponent. That would be none other than the Charlotte Hornets, who Detroit walloped by a 114-967 count on Monday.
In the process, Cade Cunningham reached 1,200 points and 4,000 assists in his 54th game. That’s one game faster than Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas did in the 1984-85 season.
“Playing with a guy like that, it makes the game really simple for me and the team,” big man Jalen Duren told reporters. “He gets it done every night.”
- The 17-point margin was the Pistons’ largest of the season. They swept the three-game series from Charlotte.
- In case you missed it, Thomas indicated he didn’t know Michael Jordan hated him until “The Last Dance” documentary. Our Ashish Mathur has the full story here.
- Center James Wiseman has finally found some consistency after arriving at the 2023 trade deadline, wrote Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press. “If he was a guy that were emotionally unstable, it would be tougher for him to be ready for those moments because he didn’t get the consistent minutes earlier this season,” coach Monty Williams said after Wiseman recorded 10 points and nine rebounds vs. the Hornets. “But he’s stayed after it, he’s stayed with it with his work with (assistant) coach Mark Bryant. Now you’re starting to see some of that work pay off for him.”
- Head of basketball operations Troy Weaver got it into with a fan, serving as the Pistons’ latest embarrassment, wrote Shawn Windsor of the Free Press. But Weaver has gotten some things right, Windsor added.
