Pistons sign JB Bickerstaff to extension ahead of series vs. Cavs

The Pistons have signed coach J.B. Bickerstaff to a contract extension, the team announced Monday. Terms were not disclosed.

President of basketball operations Trajan Langdon confirmed the move as Detroit prepares to open the second round of the playoffs Tuesday at home against the Cavaliers.

Bickerstaff has gone 104-60 in two regular seasons with the Pistons, leading the franchise to back-to-back playoff appearances. Detroit just rallied from a 3-1 series deficit to defeat the Magic in seven games in the first round.

He owns a 359-350 career record over 10 seasons as an NBA head coach, with five postseason appearances.

The upcoming series adds another layer. The Cavs fired Bickerstaff two years ago before he landed in Detroit.

Now, he faces his former team with a trip to the Eastern Conference finals on the line.
