Pistons waiving Joe Harris, Killian Hayes, Danuel House

The Detroit Pistons are waiving guard/forward Joe Harris, point guard Killian Hayes and guard/forward Danuel House after a series of trades on Thursday, per Shams Charania and James L. Edwards III of The Athletic.Joe Harris

Harris, 32, was acquired in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets over the summer and barely saw action with Detroit, appearing in 16 games and averaging just 2.4 points.

Once Harris clears waivers, he won’t be eligible to sign the Celtics, Nuggets, Warriors, Clippers, Heat, Bucks, or Suns due to the new rule prohibiting teams whose salaries are above the first tax apron from signing a player whose pre-waiver salary exceeded the mid-level exception ($12.4MM),” wrote Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors. “Harris’ salary for this season is $19.9MM.”

House, 30, is being acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers, along with a 2024 second-round pick, as we relayed here.

He is averaging 4.2 points and 1.7 rebounds, shooting 45 percent from the field and 30 percent on 3-pointers — and has an expiring contract worth just more than $4 million.

Meanwhile, Hayes was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and is averaging  6.9 points, 4.9 assists, and 2.8 rebounds, shooting just 41 percent from the field and 30 percent on 3-pointers. Those field-goal percentages are actually career highs.

Detroit reportedly attempted to trade Hayes before Thursday’s deadline but found no takers.

The Pistons agreed to three separate trades on Wednesday and Thursday, sending out three players and acquiring seven. So cuts will be needed.
