President Trump says he plans to attend NBA Finals game in New York

The New York Knicks are headed to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999. And apparently, they may have a very notable guest in attendance.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he plans to attend one of the Finals games at Madison Square Garden after being invited by Knicks owner James Dolan.

“I was invited to go on Wednesday (against Cleveland, had there been a Game 5), but they closed it out very quickly,” Trump said in comments shared by New York Post reporter Stefan Bondy. “Jim Dolan’s a great guy … he’s having a great year. What a team.”

The Knicks never needed that Game 5, of course.

New York completed a four-game sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals after previously eliminating the Philadelphia 76ers earlier in the postseason.

“I think I’ll be going to one of the (Finals) games,” Trump added. “I was invited by numerous people, and Jim. Great to see it. The Knicks have suffered for years. They’re doing great right now.”

The Knicks are awaiting the winner of the Western Conference finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs.

Oklahoma City holds a 3-2 series lead entering Thursday’s Game 6 in San Antonio.
