Raptors Interview Sergio Scariolo for Coaching Job a Second Time

The Raptors have interviewed Sergio Scariolo for their head-coaching vacancy a second time, as reported by Repubblica-Bologna and relayed by Basket News.Sergio Scariolo

Scariolo, 62, served as a Raptors assistant from 2018-21, before departing to become head coach of Italian club Virtus Bologana, a position he still holds today.

Along with Italy, as served as a head coach in Russia and Spain, including time as coach of the Spanish national team.

Toronto is looking to fill the vacancy created when ex-coach Nick Nurse was dismissed after the season following five years on the job, including a championship. Nurse has since become coach of the 76ers.

The Raptors first interviewed Scariolo back in May, when president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri and GM Bobby Webster traveled to Italy.

Scariolo’s deal with Virtus Bologna runs through the 2023-24 season, per Basket News.

Along with that news, former Nets coach Steve Nash and current Kings assistant Jordi Fernandez are no longer in the running for the coaching vacancy in Toronto, per Doug Smith of the Toronto Star.
