Star guard Luka Doncic has “strongly indicated” he would like the Mavericks to improve the roster ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.
As we relayed earlier, the Mavs are said o be among those in pursuit of Knicks forward Cam Reddish and have been active in trade talks with others as well.
If Doncic is indeed pushing the Mavs to make a move, it would be a first. He generally has stayed away from personnel matters.
Either way, the Mavs are coming off a run to the Western Conference Finals — and many throughout the league seem to think they will need to make a deal for a chance to return. Apparently, Doncic is among those people.
One key member of last season’s team, guard Jalen Brunson, left for the Knicks in free agency. Dallas has not been able to find a replacement.
“Doncic can become a free agent in 2026 and MacMahon has previously stated that the Mavericks have a two-year window to prove they can build a contender around him,” RealGM wrote.
