Report: Magic May Have Blazers’ Anfernee Simons on Radar

While the franchise has shown confidence in Jalen Suggs running the offense — and leaned heavily on Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner for playmaking duties — a first-round playoff exit against the Boston Celtics may have sparked internal discussions about adding backcourt firepower.

One name emerging as a potential target: Anfernee Simons, according to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

The Portland Trail Blazers guard, a native of nearby Altamonte Springs, could help address Orlando’s most glaring weakness — perimeter shooting. The Magic finished last in the NBA in 3-point percentage this season, a stat that proved costly against a Celtics team that punished them from beyond the arc.

Simons, 25, has shot 38.1% from three over his seven-year career, providing the kind of spacing the Magic have sorely lacked.

Simons is entering the final year of his contract, which will pay him $27.7 million in 2025-26. With Portland building around young guards Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe, league observers have pegged Simons as a likely trade candidate, and Orlando as a logical fit.

The Magic are trending upward, but the next step may hinge on adding a more dynamic scoring guard. If Orlando wants to open the floor for Banchero and Wagner, Simons checks a lot of boxes — local ties, proven shooting, and a contract that lines up with their timeline.
