The Mavericks may be aiming high in their coaching search.
According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, Dallas is expected to reach out to Jon Scheyer following the team’s decision to part ways with Jason Kidd.

There’s just one problem. Scheyer reportedly is committed to staying at Duke University.
Still, the connection makes plenty of sense.
Scheyer coached Cooper Flagg at Duke before Flagg became the No. 1 overall pick and centerpiece of Dallas’ future. Scheyer was also on Duke’s staff during Kyrie Irving’s lone college season, giving him ties to two players the Mavericks view as foundational pieces moving forward.
Meanwhile, Dallas is also expected to show serious interest in Sean Sweeney, currently an assistant with the Spurs.
The Mavericks officially moved on from Kidd earlier this week after new president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri said the organization needed a “clean slate” and “new direction.”
Ujiri has already begun reshaping the franchise, hiring Mike Schmitz as general manager while overseeing several front-office changes behind the scenes.
Now comes perhaps the biggest decision yet: Finding the coach to guide the Flagg era in Dallas.
