The 76ers and Suns are among the teams interested in a trade for Rockets guard Eric Gordon, as reported by Brian Windhorst of ESPN and relayed by Kyle Neubeck of Philly Voice.
Gordon, of course, was a member of the Rockets when current 76ers head of basketball operations Daryl Morey was GM in Houston, and James Harden was the star.
Like the Sixers, the Suns are looking for an additional veteran presence, making them a natural suitor for a player such as Gordon — who also played with Chris Paul while with the Rockets.
Gordon, 33, is 6-foot-3 and the Rockets are reportedly looking to move him for younger players who can be part of their rebuild. He averaged 13.4 points and shot 41.2 percent on 3-pointers in 57 games last season.
A point guard in size, Gordon is mostly known for his ability as a catch-and-shoot player who could perhaps be a nice fit next to Harden and Joel Embiid in Philadelphia, or Paul and the rest of the cast in Phoenix.
Marc Stein of The Stein Line recently wrote that the Rockets are seeking a first-round pick for Gordon — though there is a belief around the league they could lower their asking price ahead of Thursday’s NBA Draft.
He is due to make $19.6 million next season and $20.9 million in 2023-24. “However, the final season is fully non-guaranteed unless Gordon’s team wins the NBA Finals in 2023 or he makes the All-Star team in 2023,” RealGM wrote.
The Rockets recently traded center Christian Wood to the Mavericks in exchange for multiple players, and GM Rafael Stone may not be done yet.
They currently own three picks in the draft, all in the first round — Nos. 3, 17 (via the Nets) and 26 (via the Mavs).
