The Rockets may not be blowing things up. But they also don’t sound like a team that’s interested in standing still.
According to Kelly Iko of Yahoo Sports, Houston has become more open to trade discussions after taking a hard look at where it stands compared to the NBA’s elite teams.
The Rockets entered the offseason believing they had a strong roster, particularly after injuries played a role in their playoff exit. But after watching the Thunder, Spurs and Knicks make deep postseason runs, Houston’s front office reportedly came away with a different conclusion.

Namely, that there’s still work to do.
According to Iko, rival teams have been told that Amen Thompson is “the only near untouchable” player on the roster. That’s a significant statement.
It doesn’t mean the Rockets are shopping stars such as Alperen Sengun or Kevin Durant. In fact, Iko reported that Houston is not actively looking to move either player.
What it does mean is the Rockets appear willing to listen.
And in today’s NBA, that’s often the first step toward finding out whether there’s a move worth making.
Elsewhere, rival teams continue to monitor restricted free agent Tari Eason. According to Iko, several clubs — including the Lakers and Nets — have explored whether a sign-and-trade might be possible.
The Rockets, however, are still hoping to keep Eason.
Houston is also expected to look for ways to strengthen its bench. Veteran forward Dorian Finney-Smith has reportedly generated interest around the league and could emerge as a trade candidate if the Rockets decide to create additional flexibility.
As for Thompson, the organization reportedly plans to resume extension talks after this week’s draft. That should tell you plenty about how highly Houston views him.
