The Rockets are bringing back a familiar face from their G League program.
Houston signed forward Cameron Matthews to an Exhibit 10 contract, according to Varun Shankar of the Houston Chronicle.
The former Mississippi State forward spent his first professional season with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, averaging 12.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 48 games.
The deal appears designed to send Matthews back to the Vipers with an opportunity to earn an Exhibit 10 bonus. He would qualify by being waived and then spending at least 60 days with Houston’s G League affiliate.
That’s a common arrangement this time of year, as teams use their final preseason roster spots to prepare their development rosters.
For Matthews, it offers a chance to build on a productive first season in a system he already knows.
