Sixers Confirm Dismissal of Coach Doc Rivers

The 76ers have officially moved on from Doc Rivers as coach, making the announcement in a press release.Doc Rivers

Rivers, 61, coached Philadelphia for three seasons, losing in the second round of the playoffs each time.

“Doc is one of the most successful coaches in NBA history, a future Hall of Famer, and someone I respect immensely,” president of basketball operations Daryl Morey said in a press release. “We’re grateful for all he did in his three seasons here and thank him for the important impact he made on our franchise. After having the chance to reflect upon our season, we decided that certain changes are necessary to further our goals of competing for a championship.” 

The next order of business for the 76ers will be to begin an extensive coaching search, spearheaded by Morey.

The 76ers finished 154-82 under Rivers, who has also served as head coach of the Clippers, Celtics and Magic. Overall he has compiled a 1,097-763 record in 24 seasons, winning a championship in 2008 with Boston.
