Sixers Signing Mo Bamba to One-Year Contract

The 76ers and center Mo Bamba have agreed to a one-year contract, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.Mo Bamba

The deal is for the veteran’s minimum, added Kyle Neubeck of the Philly Voice.

Bamba, 25, was waived by the Lakers last week and is expected to provide some insurance behind All-Star Joel Embiid. That said, the Sixers still intend to keep restricted free agent big man Paul Reed, Wojnarowski added.

It’s been quite the journey for Bamba in 2023. He was traded to the Lakers by the Magic in February, then promptly got injured, appearing in just nine games with LA.

But before that, he averaged 7.3 points and 4.6 rebounds in 40 games with Orlando, offering some strong defense near the basket. On the downside, he’s been inconsistent in all areas and is little more than a perimeter shooter on offense.

With all that in mind, Reed will likely start the season ahead of Bamba on the depth chart, assuming Reed does in fact return.
