Sources: Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic could be next in line for extension

The Raptors may not be finished handing out contract extensions.

After announcing a multiyear extension and promotion for executive vice president and general manager Bobby Webster, Toronto could soon turn its attention to head coach Darko Rajakovic, sources told Hoops Wire.

Rajakovic has one year remaining on his current contract.

The 47-year-old guided one of the NBA’s biggest surprises this past season, leading the Raptors to a 46-36 record and the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference. Toronto also pushed the Cavaliers to seven games in the opening round before being eliminated.

The postseason appearance marked a significant step forward for a franchise that missed the playoffs in each of Rajakovic’s first two seasons on the sidelines.

Hired in June 2023, Rajakovic became the 10th head coach in Raptors history after previous assistant coaching stops with the Thunder, Suns and Grizzlies. He also served as head coach of the Tulsa 66ers in the G League.

Toronto’s decision to extend Webster and several key front-office executives signals a desire for organizational continuity. A new deal for Rajakovic would further reinforce that approach.

Neither the Raptors nor Rajakovic’s representatives have publicly commented on a possible extension.
