Don’t expect the Spurs to blink.
Despite having a crowded backcourt already featuring De’Aaron Fox and Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle, San Antonio appears locked in on selecting Rutgers guard Dylan Harper with the No. 2 overall pick, per ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.
The Sixers reportedly tried to trade up — presumably to grab Harper themselves — but the Spurs haven’t budged. Rival teams are coming away from conversations convinced that San Antonio intends to stay put and take Harper, positional overlap and all.
Jake Fischer of The Stein Line suggested Philly may just stay at No. 3 and take VJ Edgecombe, though he added the key phrase: “at this point.”
A lot can change between now and draft night, but for now, the top two picks seem fairly set: Cooper Flagg to Dallas, Harper to San Antonio.
The Spurs, it seems, are more interested in adding top-tier talent than worrying about fit. Probably not a bad approach.
The 2025 NBA Draft is just a little more than a week away.
