Miles Bridges gave the Suns a scare Wednesday night, but the early word from Phoenix sounds encouraging.
Bridges rolled his right ankle during the second quarter of the Suns’ preseason loss to the Bulls and did not return after heading to the locker room.
“Some of those things in the preseason suck the wind out of you,” Suns coach Jordan Ott said afterward, via Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic. “He was playing well. Our group was.”
Ott then offered the more important part. “We think he’s in a good place,” he said.
Guard Collin Gillespie also said Bridges sounded optimistic once the team returned to the locker room.
“He said he was fine when he came in here,” Gillespie said. “So we trust whatever he’s saying.”
Ott described the injury as a “freak play” and indicated Bridges could be back quickly if the ankle responds well.
“Hopefully it’s not that bad,” Ott said. “If he can go out the next night, I’m sure he’ll be out there.”
Bridges was one of Phoenix’s major offseason additions and is expected to start at power forward, making his health especially important as the Suns continue building chemistry before the regular season.
Phoenix next plays Saturday against the Spurs.
