Veteran forward Taj Gibson plans to sign with the Wizards after clearing waivers, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The Knicks announced on Friday that Gibson had been released. He will be an unrestricted free agent after waiting the 48 hours it takes to clear waivers. So he will presumably sign with the Wizards on Sunday.
Gibson, 37, is 6-foot-9 and has spent the majority of his career playing for coach Tom Thibodeau — first with the Bulls, then the Timberwolves, and finally the Knicks. He also had a stop with the Thunder in there (2016-17).
He appeared in 52 games last season, averaging 4.4 points and 4.4 rebounds. But with a new cast of big men, Gibson’s days with the Knicks were numbered.
He will join a Wizards big man rotation that includes the likes of Kristaps Porzingis, Rui Hachimura and Daniel Gafford. Washington recently lost center Thomas Bryant, who signed with the Lakers.
