Thanasis Antetokounmpo heads to Greece, will team with another brother

Thanasis Antetokounmpo won’t be following Giannis to Miami. Instead, he’s headed home, and he’ll still have an Antetokounmpo alongside him.

Thanasis has signed a two-year contract with Aris BC in Greece, the team announced Tuesday. The deal also includes a third-year team option.

His younger brother Kostas Antetokounmpo signed with Aris earlier this offseason.

Thanasis, 34, spent six of the past seven seasons with the Bucks, playing alongside Giannis and appearing in 230 regular-season games for Milwaukee. He wasn’t on the roster in 2024-25 while recovering from a torn Achilles, then returned for one final season with the Bucks.

With Giannis traded to the Heat this offseason, Thanasis’ future in Milwaukee was naturally in question.

Now he’s returning to Greece, where he previously played for Filathlitikos and Panathinaikos. The Athens native also won two domestic championships with Panathinaikos before joining Milwaukee in 2019.

Aris has assembled a roster with several other familiar names for NBA fans, including Khem Birch, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and former Ohio State forward E.J. Liddell.

But the fun part is pretty simple: After years of sharing a roster with Giannis, Thanasis will now get to play with Kostas.
