Thunder continue drawing buzz as possible NBA draft trade-up team

The Oklahoma City Thunder already have one of the NBA’s deepest young rosters.

Apparently, rival executives still expect them to be aggressive.

According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, league personnel continue pointing to Oklahoma City as one of the strongest candidates to trade up in next month’s draft.

The Thunder currently hold the No. 12 and No. 17 overall picks.

Per Fischer, if Oklahoma City ultimately keeps the No. 12 selection, rival teams believe the franchise would still be “very much open” to moving the No. 17 pick in another deal.

Executives around the league are also reportedly preparing for Thunder general manager Sam Presti to once again get aggressive on the trade market.

“What’s to stop them from packaging No. 12, 17, and future picks to try to go get (Cameron Boozer) or (Caleb Wilson)?” one Eastern Conference executive told Fischer.

Of course, actually pulling off a move like that would be difficult.

Teams drafting near the top likely won’t be eager to help Oklahoma City add yet another potential franchise cornerstone unless the Thunder significantly overpay to make it happen.

They currently lead the Western Conference finals series vs. the San Antonio Spurs by a 3-2 count. Game 6 is Thursday night in San Antonio.
