Thunder still have yet to lose first-round game under Mark Daigneault

This was never much of a series. It turned into a statement.

The Thunder completed a clean sweep of the Suns, finishing it off with a 131-122 win in Game 4 and moving on without much resistance.

Four games. Four wins. All by double digits. That’s not just taking care of business. That’s domination.

Under coach Mark Daigneault, Oklahoma City is now 12-0 in first-round games. Let that sink in for a second. This group doesn’t ease into the playoffs. It hits the ground running and keeps going.

And historically? That kind of start tends to mean something.

Only a handful of defending champions have opened the postseason with four double-digit wins in a sweep. A couple of those teams — including the Heat and Pistons — went on to win it all again.

Too early to go there? Sure. But the Thunder aren’t exactly blending in.

On the other side, this was rough. The Suns have now dropped 10 straight playoff games over the past four years, tying the longest active postseason skid in the league. That’s not a blip. That’s a trend.

Now Oklahoma City waits. The winner of the Lakers vs. Rockets is next, with L.A. holding a 3-1 lead.

Either way, the Thunder will be ready. They’ve already shown they don’t need much time to get going.
