The Minnesota Timberwolves intend to sign forward Joe Ingles to a one-year contract, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Minnesota is losing forward Kyle Anderson in a sign-and-trade with the Golden State Warriors and is hoping Ingles can help fill the void with his veteran know-how and shooting.
Ingles, 36, filled a solid role off the bench for an otherwise young Orlando Magic team this past season. Orlando returned to the playoffs and took the Cleveland Cavaliers to seven games before falling in the first round.
As Woj noted, Ingles played with current Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert and point guard Mike Conley when all three were members of the Utah Jazz.
“Ingles has played 10 NBA seasons after arriving from Australia, who he’ll represent in the 2024 Summer Olympics,” Wojnarowski wrote. “He played eight seasons with the Jazz, ending his career there with a torn ACL in 2022. He played for the Milwaukee Bucks and Magic in the past two seasons, and now appears destined for the playoffs for a third straight year — this time, with the Timberwolves.”
Minnesota advanced to the Western Conference Finals, knocking off the then-defending champion Denver Nuggets along the way, capturing Game 7 on the road. They lost to the Dallas Mavericks in five games in the West finals.
“After Anderson left for GSW, and even while that was going on, getting Joe Ingles as a playmaker and shooter off the bench was at the top of Tim Connelly’s to-do list. Nice addition for a guy very familiar with Conley and Rudy,” wrote Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
