A three-team trade that would send Wizards forward Kristaps Porzingis to the Celtics and Celtics guard Malcolm Brogdon to the Clippers is viewed as a “high possibility,” a source told Shams Charania and Jared Weiss of The Athletic.
In exchange, the Wizards would receive forward Marcus Morris and draft compensation from the Clippers, per Charania and Weiss.
Celtics forward Danilo Gallinari would also likely be included in the deal to help the salaries match — as Porzingis can opt into a $36 million contract ahead of the potential trade, Charania and Weiss noted.
For the Wizards, it’s all part of new team president Michael Winger retooling the roster with an eye toward the future. He has already orchestrated a trade of star guard Bradley Beal to the Suns.
Interestingly, the Wizards are getting back Suns point guard Chris Paul as part of that deal, and Paul had been linked to a reunion with the Clippers. But LA would be less inclined to make a move for Paul if they’re able to land Brogdon. That could result in the Wizards hanging onto Paul into the season, or until another potential suitor is found.
Meanwhile, the Celtics would be teaming Porzingis with standout wings Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, creating a threesome that many believe would make the Celtics immediate favorites to emerge from the Eastern Conference.
