The Warriors got their man. And their minivan.
Free agent forward Georges Niang has agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million contract with Golden State, according to ESPN.
Niang, 33, is a career 39.9 percent shooter from 3-point range and gives the Warriors another veteran floor-spacing option as they round out their regular-season roster.
Golden State had been linked to Niang for weeks, with Jake Fischer and Marc Stein both indicating that a reunion of sorts was part of the Warriors’ offseason plans. Niang never played in an NBA game for Golden State, but he did spend time with the organization’s G League affiliate in 2017-18.
He missed all of last season, largely because of a foot injury suffered before training camp. That obviously makes this something of a bounce-back bet for both sides.
The Warriors also agreed Tuesday to a one-year deal with guard Brandon Williams. ESPN noted that the two moves fill Golden State’s remaining open regular-season roster spots.
So after spending much of August looking at veteran depth, the Warriors appear to have landed on their final 15-man group.
Niang won’t be asked to reinvent anything. If healthy, his job is pretty straightforward: space the floor, make open shots and give Golden State some size at forward.
For a team still trying to squeeze as much as possible out of Stephen Curry’s window, that’s a reasonable place to start.
