Warriors’ Andrew Wiggins Out for Final Two Games of Regular Season

While reports suggested Warriors small forward Andrew Wiggins would return this week, that will not be the case.Andrew Wiggins

Instead, Wiggins will miss the final two games of the regular season, coach Steve Kerr said, via Kendra Andrews of ESPN.

Wiggins last played on Feb. 13 and has missed 23 games due to what he described as a family matter.

“He’ll continue to work and he’ll ramp it up pretty quickly,” Kerr told hosts Mark Willard and Dan Dibley on 95.7 The Game’s Willard & Dibs.

Wiggins scrimmaged with some of the younger Warriors’ players an staff members on Wednesday.

“Full court, 5-on-5. He looked good,” Kerr said. “… He hasn’t played in two months and he’s out there running around and looking pretty good. He still has to stack a number of days like this before he’s ready to go out and play in an NBA game. We can’t put him in a bad spot, health-wise. We got to make sure we build him up, get his strength and conditioning in a good place before we put him out there.”

Wiggins’ teammates and coaches have expressed concern without getting into details about his situation.

“We’d love to have him and hope that that does happen, because we want to be whole and I’m sure he wants to be a part of this,” guard Steph Curry told reporters last week. “But when he walks in the door, it’ll be when it’s the right time for him. That’s kind of the expectation at this point.”

Wiggins was an All-Star for the first time in 2021-22 but has appeared in only 37 games this year. The former No. 1 overall draft pick is averaging 17.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and shooting 47 percent from the field, including 39 percent on 3-pointers.

He also served as a strong defensive presence during the defending champions’ title run last season.

Golden State (42-38) currently sits in a tie for fifth in the Western Conference with the Clippers. The Warriors’ final two games are on the road — at the Kings and at the Trail Blazers.
